Origin

Ban Zhang Pu’er is the traditional Chinese Shu Pu’er from Yunnan. The 250 – 400 years old trees are grown in the small village called “Ban Zhang '' which is located south-west of Yunnan on the border with Myanmar. This old village is mostly famous for the production of different Pu’er teas and well known among Pu’er lovers around the world.

Story of Shu Pu’er Tea

Since ancient times the tea from Yunnan was imported to the different regions of China. One of the most famous legends of Shu Pu’er Tea discovery is related to the Tibet Region. Due to the lack of plants and vitamins in the high-mountain area of Tibet, the monks used to drink a lot of tea which could supplement most of the necessary elements our body needs in such an extreme environment. Thus, lots of Yunnan Pu’er was imported to this region. But the way there was long. The famous «Ancient tea horse road» is a hundreds of days journey through the mountains. Tea was either born by men or loaded on horses. It was wrapped in bamboo leaves. In a few months of journey anything could happen. The tea often got soaked by rain. Getting dump it was naturally drying by itself. That is when the so-called “after-fermentation” took place. When the water came in, the fermentation process had started. Tea leaves got fully fermented and changed their color to dark. After that, the traders noticed that sometimes it got spoiled, but in some cases conversely its flavor became more fragrant, dark and deep, as if the tea was made many years ago. Therewith, it was known that in the south where the climate is hot and humid the tea is aging faster. Although, there was no industrial process of accelerated tea aging, the approach thereto became clear.

Flavor

Our Aged Shu Pu’er represents the classical shu pu’er tea of the extraordinary quality. This tea has been aging for almost 20 years what made its taste even deeper and more solid. From the first pour the one can smell its deep aged character, but the creamy aftertaste will remind of the tea elegance and sophistication. There are no words to precisely describe the tremendous flavor of this Pu’er, therefore, for all pu’er lovers we suggest trying it and making their own taste examination.

Brewing

Brewing process is not complicated with this Pu’er. For a 300 ml tea-pot we suggest to use not more than 5 grams of tea. First brew should not be used, and poured out straight forward. Then, the second brew should take 30-40 seconds. To each of the following brews the one can add 30-50 seconds depending on the preference. The Aged Shu Pu’er can be poured 15 or even 20 times!
